Who we are
This learning platform is run by MD Acumen Ltd, trading as the MD Acumen School of Postgraduate Medicine, a company registered in England and Wales (company number 16538952). MD Acumen Ltd is the data controller for the information described here and is registered with the Information Commissioner’s Office (registration reference ZC105897). Contact: enquiry@mdacumen.com.
What we collect
- Your e-mail address, and the full name you give for certificates.
- Your consent choices, with the date and the version of the wording you agreed to.
- Your course membership (cohort) and timetable.
- A record of how you use the platform: lessons opened, study paths used, self-assessment quiz and examination answers, how sure you said you were, and the time taken.
- Work you submit, your declaration of any use of AI tools, and the marks and feedback you receive.
- Certificates issued to you, and their verification codes.
Why we use it, and the lawful basis
- Teaching, assessment and quality assurance. To run your course, mark your work, report your marks to your university and improve our teaching and questions. Basis: your consent, which you give when you first sign in.
- Educational research (optional). A de-identified copy of your learning record, used only after your university’s research ethics committee has approved a specific study, and only if you opted in. Basis: your separate consent. Until a study is approved, this consent is recorded but not used.
- Certificates. So that anyone you show a certificate to can confirm it is genuine. The public verification page shows only your name, the course, the date, the credit and the grade.
Who sees it
- The course teaching team at MD Acumen Ltd.
- Your university, which receives your marks and remains responsible for your academic record under its own rules.
- Our service providers, acting only on our instructions: Supabase (database and file storage, London) and Vercel (web hosting, London region). An e-mail provider sends your sign-in links.
We do not sell learner data, and we do not use it for advertising.
Where it is held
Your data are stored in the United Kingdom (London). We do not intend to transfer them outside the UK; where a service provider must do so, we rely on the safeguards UK law requires.
How long we keep it
- Learning records, submissions and marks: three years after the end of your course, then deleted or anonymised.
- Certificates and their verification records: three years after issue, so that they can be verified during that time.
- Consent records: for as long as we hold the data they cover.
Automated marking
Self-assessment quiz and examination answers are marked automatically against an answer key that a registered clinician has checked and signed. Final marks are confirmed by the course leader. No decision with legal or similar effect is made about you by automated means alone.
Your rights
You may ask for a copy of your data, ask us to correct it, erase it, restrict or object to its use, or receive it in a portable format. You may withdraw consent at any time on your account page; withdrawal does not affect what was done before. Marks already reported to your university are kept by the university under its own rules. Write to enquiry@mdacumen.com. If you are unhappy with our answer, you may complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ico.org.uk).
Cookies
We use only the cookies needed to keep you signed in. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies.
Changes
If MD Acumen’s education activities pass to a successor organisation, your data may be transferred to it on the same terms. We will tell you about any material change to this notice.
